KUCHING: Catholics have been reminded to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) when observing All Souls’ Day today (Nov 2) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Initially, Catholics were allowed to visit cemeteries and columbarium with a limited number of people present, but due to recent surge in Covid-19 cases in Kuching, the Archdiocese of Kuching has decided to suspend visits and cemetery blessings.

Archbishop Simon Poh said the suspension is to break the chain of the infection, but also called on Catholics to participate in the All Souls’ Day Mass which was live streamed at 10am today via the Archdiocese’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/arch.kuching/).

“As part of our filial duty and love for the elderly in the villages, I humbly ask Catholics from Kuching city to refrain from travelling back to your respective villages for All Souls’ Day.

“Instead, please postpone your visit to a later date, preferably, after mid-November,” said Poh.

Masses for churches in red zones were also temporary suspended until further notice.

All Souls’ Day is a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have died.
