SIBU: Four local men, who failed to report for bail, were re-arrested during an anti-drug operation dubbed ‘Op Cegah’ on Monday (Apr 14).

The operation, which began at 7 am, involved five officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) targeting three separate locations around Sibu town.

All four were brought before the Magistrate’s Court at the Sibu Court Complex, along with eight others, aged between 25 and 40, who also received their court orders that day.

The four who breached their bail conditions were ordered under Section 6(1)(a) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 to undergo institutional rehabilitation at the Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) in Kuching.

The remaining eight were ordered to undergo community-based treatment and rehabilitation under Section 6(1)(b) of the same Act.

In a separate update, AADK Sibu detained eight men, aged between 21 and 60, for suspected drug abuse during another round of Op Cegah on Saturday (Apr 12).

That operation, which started at 8am, saw eight officers conducting raids at multiple locations across Sibu and Kanowit.

Initial urine tests revealed all of them tested positive for methamphetamine. The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
