MIRI: The police on Sunday (Feb 16) picked up a 38 year-old man suspected of stealing diesel from a telecommunications tower located on Jalan Pantai.
The suspect was identified after his image was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
The incident came to light when employees of the telecommunications tower reviewed the CCTV recordings on Sunday morning.
Upon discovering the footage, a police report was promptly filed to initiate further investigation.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, siphoned approximately 20 litres of diesel from the tower’s generator tank.
The stolen diesel was reportedly transferred into containers brought by the suspect.
During the arrest, authorities seized five plastic containers and a hose, allegedly used in the theft. It is understood that the suspect had unlawfully entered the telecommunications compound at around 7 am on the same day.
The incident has caused an estimated loss of RM300, and the case is now being investigated under Sections 447 and 379 of the Penal Code, which address trespassing and theft offences.
