KUCHING: Sarawak is gearing up to host the Borneo Games 2025, with chef-de-mission (CDM), Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, visiting athletes in training across several sports.

Ripin, who is also the Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, toured competition venues on Friday, meeting athletes, coaches and team officials from athletics, swimming, archery and lawn bowls.

His morning tour took him to the archery arena and lawn bowls arena, where he conversed with coaches and team managers.

Later in the afternoon, he visited the swimming and athletics teams, receiving a warm welcome from participants and support staff.

The Borneo Games, scheduled for September 24 to 28, will bring together about 1,000 athletes from East Kalimantan, Brunei Darussalam, Sabah and Labuan.

Competitions include athletics, swimming, badminton, archery and lawn bowls, to be staged across multiple venues in Kuching.

First held in 1955, the Games last took place in Labuan in 2013.

The event promotes regional camaraderie and provides a platform for emerging athletes to gain multi-sport experience.
