KUCHING: The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) is set to host its highly anticipated annual event, SBC Biodiversity Day 2025, on May 24 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at its headquarters in Semenggoh here.
The event marks the celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity, an annual observance on May 22, and is open to the public with free admission.
The theme for this year’s International Day for Biological Diversity is ‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development’, which ties in with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the targets set in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
“This year’s theme is particularly significant as Sarawak recently launched its Biodiversity Policy, aiming to integrate biodiversity considerations into development strategies across all sectors.
“SBC plays a key role where traditional knowledge (TK) intersects with science,” said SBC Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr Yeo Tiong Chia.
“This celebration also underscores the vital balance between documenting traditional knowledge and the scientific research we conduct here at SBC.”
The event will offer a variety of activities, including interactive science games, exhibitions on traditional knowledge, guided jungle trekking, and displays from local agencies and indigenous communities.
This provides attendees with the opportunity to learn about ongoing research and development efforts at SBC while raising awareness on biodiversity.
