KUCHING: The Christmas and New Year 2026 celebration at Kampung Stampin Baru on Sunday reflected Sarawak’s harmonious multicultural society and inclusive development.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Sau Sin said the celebration was not merely a festive occasion, but a meaningful reflection of Sarawak’s unique strength — a society built on mutual respect, tolerance and strong family values across diverse cultures and beliefs.

In his address, he said that the spirit of Christmas and the New Year resonates strongly with Sarawakian values of compassion, hope, and togetherness.

“This is the Sarawak we are proud of — where diversity is celebrated, harmony is safeguarded, and every community has a place in our shared future,” he said when officiating at the event.

Yap highlighted that such unity is reinforced through inclusive, people-centric policies implemented by the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Among the key initiatives outlined were the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FETS) starting in 2026, strategic investments in the digital economy and green energy sectors to create quality jobs, as well as continued welfare assistance and infrastructure development to uplift communities at the grassroots level.

“These initiatives are not abstract policies. They are practical measures designed to improve daily lives, strengthen social mobility and ensure that progress reaches every household, regardless of race, religion or background,” he stressed.

Additionally, Yap reaffirmed his commitment to consistently raise the needs and concerns of Kota Sentosa residents, ensuring that development policies translate into tangible benefits on the ground.

He emphasised that development must be measured not by announcements, but by real improvements felt by the people.

Looking ahead to the new year, Yap called on residents of Kota Sentosa and all Sarawakians to continue nurturing unity and social harmony, while working together to support Sarawak’s long-term growth and stability.

“With strong unity, responsible leadership and a stable Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, I am confident that Sarawak will continue to progress and prosper,” he said.

Yap concluded by extending his Christmas and New Year greetings to all celebrating, wishing everyone good health, happiness, and continued blessings in the year ahead.
