KUCHING: The Tua Pek Kong Anniversary celebration held at the temple compound on Saturday beautifully reflected Sarawak’s greatest strength – the unity of its diverse and multiracial society, living in harmony under one unique state identity.

The dinner reception, which brought together over 500 guests from various backgrounds, stood as clear proof that cultural events not only preserve ancestral heritage but also provide a meaningful platform to instil mutual respect and strengthen community ties.

Tupong assemblyman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said Sarawak’s strength lies in the unity of its people, which remains steadfast despite differences in beliefs, cultures, and ways of life.

“Events like this not only help preserve cultural heritage but are also important avenues for fostering unity and mutual respect among the people.

“This is the very strength that makes Sarawak a unique and harmonious state,” he said in his speech.

Fazzrudin, who is also the Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, commended the organisers for hosting an event that not only brought the local community together but also reinforced the spirit of goodwill that has long been a foundation of Sarawakian life.

The celebration was further enlivened by cultural dance performances, lion dance shows, and a multi-ethnic dinner menu representing the rich cultural heritage of Sarawak.

More than just a religious and cultural observance for the Chinese community, the annual Tua Pek Kong Anniversary celebration has become a shining example of multicultural harmony – a living model of how communities can coexist peacefully, support one another, and proudly share a common Sarawakian identity.
