KUCHING: A local man was injured after the cement lorry he was driving skidded out of control and crashed near the Demak Laut roundabout today.

The accident happened at around 2.50 pm when the vehicle overturned to the roadside, leaving the driver trapped inside.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene, about 12 km away, following a distress call.

Upon arrival, the team used specialised tools to free the injured driver from the lorry’s cab.

The victim, whose identity is not known, was immediately handed over to a Red Crescent ambulance team at the scene for further treatment.

The extent of his injuries was not known.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the rescue operation at 4.33 pm.
