PADAWAN: A routine day’s work at a cemetery along Jalan Lumba Kuda turned deadly yesterday (Jan 3) when an elderly man was found dead and his stepson injured following a violent incident.
The incident happened around noon when members of the public came across the victims, believed to be cemetery workers, lying unconscious at the site and alerted the authorities.
A response team from Padawan Criminal Investigation Division (CID), together with Sarawak police forensic unit, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, investigators found a 67-year-old man lying motionless on the ground with injuries to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and his body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further action.
His 34-year-old stepson was also found seriously injured and was rushed to the same hospital for immediate treatment.
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said the motive behind the incident has yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Efforts are underway to identify and locate the suspect.
