KUCHING: Traders and visitors at two community markets here received a sweet surprise when Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng distributed cendol jelly in conjunction with International Women’s Day.
The mayor was accompanied by councillors, Judy Kho and Albert Tay, during visits to Stutong Community Market and Kenyalang Park Market.
During the walkabout, Wee personally handed out the refreshing dessert to traders, shoppers and visitors as a gesture of appreciation for the role women play in the community.
He said International Women’s Day serves as a meaningful occasion to recognise and thank women for their contributions to families, workplaces and society.
“We cannot deny the important role women play in building families, strengthening communities and supporting the local economy,” he said.
Wee noted that the contributions of women can be clearly seen in community markets, where many are actively involved as traders and small business operators.
According to him, their dedication and hard work continue to support local livelihoods while contributing to the vibrancy of the community.
The mayor also took the opportunity to greet traders and members of the public while extending his Women’s Day wishes.
The cendol jelly distribution was warmly received, bringing smiles to many visitors at both markets during the morning visit.
