KUCHING: The Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) continues to make strides in advancing the aviation sector through a strategic collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

The partnership will explore the implementation of aviation training programmes through joint initiatives between CENTEXS and its subsidiary, CENTEXS Commercial, to strengthen the aerospace industry’s development in Sarawak.

The meeting focused on understanding the regulatory framework, technical requirements, as well as safety standards and industry accreditations necessary for the execution of large-scale industrial training programmes.

CENTEXS chief executive officer Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman said the session is crucial in aligning with the required guidelines and standards for industry-based aviation training.

“This includes understanding the technical requirements, safety standards, and industry accreditations essential for developing the aviation and aerospace sectors,” he said.

“The visit also provided an opportunity for us to engage directly and refine our strategic direction in aerospace, one of CENTEXS’s priority areas.”

He added that various aerospace-related programme proposals would be further refined with CAAM.

“This discussion opens up vast opportunities not only for Sarawak but also for the nation’s aviation industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, CAAM deputy chief executive officer (Regulation) Captain Mohd Radzi Mohamad Alias @ Abd Majid said the collaboration could serve as a catalyst for technological advancement in Malaysia’s aviation sector.

“We are committed to working hand-in-hand with CENTEXS to accelerate the growth of this sector.
This partnership is not only vital for Sarawak but also holds the potential to stimulate national economic growth,” he emphasised.

Radzi also noted the significant potential of the flying car industry, which is rapidly developing in Malaysia.

“The flying car industry is expected to become a key driver of future economic growth through its sub-technologies and emerging educational ecosystem.

“With the right technological and educational foundations, Malaysia can soon develop its own homegrown innovations without relying on foreign technology,” he said.

The collaboration is anticipated to become a vital platform for nurturing skilled talent in aerospace, strengthening Sarawak’s position as a high-impact technical training hub.
