KUALA LUMPUR: The Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (CENTEXS) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have deepened their strategic partnership in technology training, innovation, and talent development with the launch of CENHUA 2.0.

This new phase aims to expand technology skills, foster innovation, and equip Sarawak’s workforce to meet the demands of an ever-evolving ASEAN digital economy.

CENHUA 2.0 was officially launched under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the collaboration will focus on delivering joint industry-based certification courses in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).

“We are taking this partnership to the next level,” said CENTEXS’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman.

“With Huawei, we are going deeper into areas like data centres and exploring how to create another Large Language Model for Malaysia.

“We have worked with Huawei for the past seven years under the ‘CENHUA’ initiative, and today’s signing marks the beginning of CENHUA 2.0, expanding from Sarawak and Malaysia into ASEAN,” he added.

“We will rely on Huawei’s advice on which country to start with, but I am open to working with any that need us. Many ASEAN countries already view Malaysia as a model, so now is the right time to act.”

He said that this next phase is also about embedding AI into every aspect of CENTEXS’ 104 training programmes covering 10 industries.

These range from deep technical skills like data centre engineering and algorithms to practical AI tools.

The initiative will also involve the development of academic content that integrates real-world industry case studies and the exploration of AI applications using CENTEXS’ organisational data.

The partnership will further explore the rollout of Huawei’s Digital Leadership Excellence (DLE) Programme in Sarawak.

This programme is designed to empower the state’s digital leaders with first-hand exposure to global technology best practices, helping them to compete and collaborate in both regional and global markets within a digital and AI-driven economy.

Huawei will also work closely with CENTEXS to provide dedicated mentorship for trainees and graduates through the CENTEXS Invention and Innovation Centre.

In addition, targeted initiatives will be developed to strengthen graduate employability and facilitate job placement opportunities.

Huawei Malaysia’s CEO, Simon Sun, noted the company’s commitment to supporting Sarawak’s vision for a competitive and inclusive digital economy.

“The future is about collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

“By combining Huawei’s global technology expertise with CENTEXS’ strong local foundation, we can deliver programmes that empower talent, promote innovation, and create long-term economic value.”

“The MoU builds on the long-standing CENTEXS-Huawei partnership, which began in 2017 with the establishment of CENHUA, aiming to deliver industry-relevant ICT training and expand broadband connectivity in Sarawak.

The MoU signing ceremony took place during the ASEAN AI Summit 2025.

The ceremony was witnessed by CENTEXS Chief Academic Officer of the Aerospace, Digital & Green Energy Academy, Dr Dayang Hanani Abang Ibrahim, and Sun himself.

Also present were Angkasa Research Technology Centre (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Business Development Director, Datuk Marina Hashim, and CENTEXS Commercial Sarawak (CCS) General Manager, Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri.
