LUNDU: The Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Lundu plans to offer flight cabin crew training courses, following the takeover of the state-owned airline, Air Borneo.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said this initiative aims to produce a skilled local workforce in the aviation industry.
“I have just discussed this with Centexs CEO Datuk Sayeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman. The next course will involve cabin crew training.
“Flight attendants must undergo intensive training and obtain certification before they are eligible to serve as cabin crew.
“After passing the required examinations, they can begin their careers in the aviation industry, especially with Air Borneo,” he said in a press conference after visiting the Centexs Lundu Aerospace Academy on Tuesday (March 4).
Lee added that Centexs Lundu continues to receive strong interest, with 200 students currently on the waiting list to join the Aerospace Academy.
Currently, Centexs Lundu offers various programmes related to the aviation industry, including the Certificate in Aerospace Sheet Metal, Certificate in Aerospace Machining Operation and Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, covering Aircraft Turbines, Helicopter Turbines, and Avionics.
“In fact, these programmes have received very good responses from Sarawak students. Currently, there are 200 students still on the waiting list to join this academy.”
He added that students wishing to join this course must meet the minimum eligibility requirements, which include passing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with credit in English, Science, Mathematics, and Physics.
“These are the requirements that need to be met before they can join this programme.”
