BETONG: Central Zone’s weightlifters showed strength and skill to dominate the men’s 60kg and 71kg categories at the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV 2026.
Strength and technique were on full display at Dewan Panglima Rentap today (Feb 5) as top lifters from across Sarawak’s zones competed in thrilling and fiercely contested battles.
In the 60kg division, Lawrenson Gawan Lik of Central Zone dominated the platform, successfully snatching 80kg to claim gold, followed by Darriel Bravellen Jeffery from Northern Zone with 70kg, and Asfiex Jayddhen Siah Maureen, also from Central Zone, who secured bronze with a 65kg snatch.
Lawrenson maintained his momentum in the clean and jerk, hoisting 103kg to capture another gold medal.
Darriel lifted 85kg for silver, while Asfiex earned bronze with 80kg.
The men’s 71kg division was equally competitive, with Central Zone’s Ferancis Liam Ngelai posting a 70kg snatch to take gold, narrowly edging out teammate Fathier Jackrill Shirley, who also lifted 70kg but settled for silver.
Raphael Alexie Cruz Roma of Northern Zone rounded out the podium with a 60kg snatch for bronze.
In the clean and jerk, Fathier Jackrill Shirley turned the tables with a commanding 95kg lift for gold.
Raphael closely followed with 91kg for silver, while Ferancis claimed bronze with 85kg.
