LUNDU: The Social Support Centre (PSSS), an initiative under the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM), serves as a dedicated platform where communities can seek support, voice concerns, and access professional counselling services.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri stressed the growing concerns surrounding mental health, noting that it affects not only adults but also children and adolescents.
She said that stress stemming from family issues, education, or environmental factors could have long-term effects on mental well-being.
“Sometimes, when we are stressed, we don’t know where to turn for help. This is why the PSSS initiative is crucial. It provides a safe space for individuals to seek support without stigma.
“PSSS offers counselling for individuals and families, as well as advocacy sessions and mental health awareness programmes.
“There are both mobile and static PSSS units. Today, we brought the mobile unit, which allows us to reach more communities across Sarawak and nationwide,” she said.
She said this during the PSSS ‘Kamek Nengar Kamek Nulong’ Outreach Tour Programme held at the Salcra Bajor Training Centre here today (Feb 8).
During the event, a Back to School 2026 Donation Programme was also held, benefiting 220 students from 16 primary schools in the area.
Nancy, who is the Santubong MP, expressed hope that the assistance—comprising school bags, tumblers, and stationery—would encourage students to return to school with confidence.
“Education is the key to a brighter future. Study hard to achieve success because education is an asset that can uplift not just your own life but also your family’s,” she said.
