KUCHING: A Narcotics Nucleus Secretariat (SNN) had been proposed in Tebedu to combat drug abuse in Sarawak.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the SNN would serve as an information centre and a liaison platform between local agencies and their counterparts in exchanging information related to drug smuggling.

“In the near future, we will set up our SNN in Tebedu and it will serve as a platform to convey information on drug smuggling activities.

“It aims to ensure swift action in handling drug-related information by directly transmitting the information to Bukit Aman and the Sarawak contingent,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy visit on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Khaw said they would increase the number of personnel by creating 128 vacancies for JSJN police officers in 13 districts in Sarawak.

He said the move is to fill vacancies in the identified districts that require more enforcement personnel.

“We will seek experienced police officers to fill the positions in districts that do not have sufficient officers or personnel,” he said.
