SERIAN: Four sections of the Pan Borneo Highway are affected by floods following continuous heavy rain across several districts in Sarawak.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the most critical area is the P-turn near Kampung Ranchan here, where floodwaters from a nearby river have inundated both directions of the highway from KM187 to KM187.7.
Other affected sections include Selangau, the Bakun intersection at KM818.4, and Pujut near Eastwood Golf & Country Club (KM938-KM940).
Despite the rising waters, Nanta assured that all affected roads remain passable to vehicles and will not be closed.
“In Serian, around 700 metres of the Pan Borneo Highway is flooded due to an overflow from a nearby river.
“However, safety and convenience for road users are ensured, as officers are monitoring the situation on-site.
“The most important thing is that the roads remain accessible at all times, with no closures required due to flooding,” he said.
He told the media this after inspecting the situation at the Pan Borneo Highway near Kampung Ranchan here today.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) reported that no structural damage has been recorded, and continuous monitoring is being carried out in collaboration with the relevant authorities.
According to Sarawak PWD, flooding has affected the Bakun section since Jan 28, while the Serian and Pujut sections have been inundated since Jan 29.
The Selangau section was hit by rising waters starting Jan 30.
