DESPITE the influx of fresh faces into Malaysia’s entertainment scene, Chacha Maembong remains unfazed, confident that there is still a place for her in the evolving industry.
The 29-year-old, whose real name is Siti Aishah Ismail, expressed her gratitude for the continued trust shown by directors, producers, and television stations in her acting abilities.
“Some roles are just the right fit, and they still call on me. We’re already in 2025 and I’m still fortunate enough to still be given a range of characters to portray.
“There’s enough opportunity for everyone — even the newcomers. Sometimes, viewers simply want a change and prefer not to see the same faces on screen all the time.”
Chacha, the younger sister of actress Emma Maembong, also spoke candidly about her experiences working alongside the new generation of actors. While many have been respectful and eager to learn, she admitted that some can come across as aloof.
“I came into the industry before the social media boom. I’m thankful I had the chance to experience that era,” she reflected.
“There are new actors who seek advice, especially if they’re struggling with their lines. I tell them, if you have the will to learn, InsyaAllah, you can go far in this industry.
“Back then, when I started acting, we showed up on set with our full focus on the script — we didn’t even hold our phones.
Things are different now. Some of these ‘instant’ stars behave in a certain way but that’s just how it is.”
Nevertheless, Chacha chooses to focus on the positive and doesn’t concern herself with difficult personalities as long as they don’t interfere with her work.
“As long as they don’t cross the line, I’m fine with them keeping to themselves. What matters is whether they can embody the role and deliver the performance,” she said.
“Even after all these years, I’m still learning. Every day on set is a chance to pick up something new.”
