KUCHING: Two passengers sustained minor injuries following a chain accident involving three vehicles at a popular shopping mall’s multi-storey car park last Saturday (Aug 9).
The accident, which occurred around 2.30 pm on Level 2 of the parking facility, involved a Perodua Alza, a Perodua Bezza and a Proton Persona.
Preliminary investigations found that the Alza, driven by a 45-year-old man, was heading towards the exit ramp to Jalan Wan Alwi when the driver lost control of the vehicle while descending.
As a result, the Alza rammed into the rear of the Bezza, causing it to lurch forward and hit the rear of the Persona.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a traffic team dispatched to the scene conducted a thorough inspection of all vehicles and victims.
“Two passengers in the Bezza sustained minor injuries and received initial treatment at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver and other passengers escaped serious injuries,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failure to exercise due control over the movement of a vehicle.
Alexson reminded motorists to remain vigilant and maintain full control of their vehicles, especially in multi-storey car parks, and to check the condition of their vehicles before driving.
“They should also practise consideration for the safety of all road users,” he said.
