KUCHING: The Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase Two project, valued at RM7.4 billion, is expected to take at least five years to complete due to geographical challenges and extensive engineering requirements.

Minister of Works (KKR) Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that various on-ground challenges could impact the project’s progress.

“Among the challenges are geographical factors and the project’s extensive scope, which requires detailed engineering work.

“We finalised the agreement with the contractor at the end of last year, and they will begin on-site work within two to three months,” he said at a press conference after officiating at the Malaysia Public Works Strategic Collaboration Programme at Damai Lagoon Resort today (Feb 12).

Also present at the programme were KKR Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Sarawak Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Malaysia Public Works Department (PWD) director-general Datuk Wira Roslan Ismail, and other officials.

Phase Two of the SSLR is a 326km road project designed to connect communities in Sarawak and Sabah.

Maltimur Aktif Unggul JV Sdn Bhd (MAUJV) is the master contractor for the project.
