KOTA SAMARAHAN: Charity Golf for Rural Kids Education Fund managed to raise RM1.1 million yesterday.
Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the collection would be placed in My Kasih Foundation for the needy.
“The foundation will disburse the collection to cater nearly 10,000 rural schoolchildren in Sarawak.
“A total of 121 rural schools were affected by floods from January until March this year,” said Uggah while officiating the prize-presentation ceremony at Samaharan Country Club.
He urged generous organisations to assist the needy children in rural areas.
“They need our assistance to ensure that they are not left behind in education,” he pointed out.
Uggah also personally donated RM10,000 to My Kasih Foundation in support of the programme.
Organising chairman, Datuk Richard Lee said for over the year, they had donated RM15 million for rural children’s education.
“We are still looking forward to more generous donors in future,” he said in his welcoming speech.
Also present was the State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
