BINTULU: A charity run themed ‘Cahaya Chung Hua, Kasih Sayang di Jalanan 2025’ (Chung Hua’s Light, Love on the Road 2025), organised by SJK(C) Chung Hua Bintulu, successfully raised RM180,000 to repair the school’s teaching and learning (PdPc) building roof.

SJK(C) Chung Hua Bintulu’s Headmistress, Tie Moi Hie, said the achievement reflected the unity and compassion of the school community and the locals who care deeply about improving the school’s educational facilities.

“The RM180,000 collected is more than just a number; it is proof of the solidarity among teachers, parents, alumni, students and the community.

“It shows that SJK(C) Chung Hua Bintulu continues to be a shared source of pride,” she said at the event held at the school grounds on Saturday evening.

The flag-off was officiated by Tanjong Batu’s State Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, together with Steven Kong Kai Seng, the Special Officer to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, who is also Bintulu’s Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, as well as members of the SJK(C) Chung Hua Bintulu’s Management Board.

Tie said that although the amount collected was encouraging, the school still needs to raise about RM170,000 more to reach its overall target of RM350,000 to cover the full cost of the roof repair.

“We still have two major programmes coming up: a pickleball championship and a charity sale on November 23. With the strong support of everyone involved, I am confident we will reach our target,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to the chairman of the school management board, Kong Chiong Ung, who led the list of donors with a contribution of RM30,000, including RM10,000 as a token of appreciation for teachers.

Other contributors included Vice-Chairman, Kong Ngiou Kwong (RM10,000), and Honorary Chairpersons, Yiek Siew Leong, Datuk Francis Yong, Datuk Ngu Weng Hie, and Bryan Hong Yew Chai, each contributing RM5,000.

The programme drew nearly 1,000 participants comprising students, parents and alumni, as well as representatives from the corporate sector and security agencies.

“The turnout and enthusiasm of the participants were truly touching. It shows that the love for this school remains strong and continues to unite us all,” Tie added.

She further highlighted that the success of the event would serve as a catalyst for ongoing efforts to develop school infrastructure, ensuring that the younger generations can learn in a safe, comfortable and conducive environment.
