Charlie, Clarence retain Serian DBNA top posts

SERIAN: The Serian branch of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) has elected a new leadership line-up for the 2026-2028 term, with Dr Charlie Ungang returned as chairman and Dr Clarence Jerry as deputy chairman, both unopposed.

The appointments were confirmed during the branch’s triennial general meeting (TGM) held on Mar 28, marking the first time the gathering took place at the newly completed Serian DBNA Community Centre.

Priscilla Kathy was appointed secretary, assisted by Denvy Mell, while Doris Francis Manggi was named treasurer with Katina Landut as assistant treasurer.

The new executive committee (exco) comprises Jonathan Tarip, Wati Gian, Datuk Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, Lawrence Juan Lakin, Patrick Philip Moss, Thomas Daling and Joseline Adong Francis Manggie.

The closing ceremony of the TGM was officiated by patron of DBNA Serian branch and advisor to the Sarawak Premier on Education, Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.

In his address, he underscored the importance of strong leadership, unity and sustained commitment in advancing the socio-cultural and economic well-being of the Bidayuh community.

Also present were assemblymen Dr Simon Sinang Bada (Tebedu) and John Ilus (Bukit Simuja) as well as community leaders Temenggong Henry Bujang Sadok, Pemanca Kane Manong and Pemanca Jacques Kantuh.

Meanwhile, Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben, who was unable to attend, contributed RM5,000 in support of the branch’s activities.

DBNA Serian expressed confidence that the refreshed leadership, combining experience and new energy, will strengthen cultural preservation, enhance youth engagement and drive impactful community programmes in Serian and its surrounding areas.

The branch described the new line-up as reflecting a strong spirit of unity, cooperation and shared responsibility in serving the community more effectively.
