BANGKOK: The national contingent have no intention of slowing down at the SEA Games Thailand 2025 despite already achieving their 200-medal target.
Its Chef de Mission Nurul Huda Abdullah stressed that the campaign is far from over even though the 33rd edition of the biennial Games will close its curtain at the Rajamangala National Stadium tomorrow (Saturday, Dec 20).
“We are not done yet. We still will be fighting and giving it our best, and we know that we can achieve more medals, so let’s see what we can actually achieve,” she told reporters here recently.
The former national swimming great said the achievement was the result of a collective effort involving not only the athletes, but also team managers, national sports associations, and key sporting bodies that have been working closely behind the scenes throughout the Games.
She also took the opportunity to express her appreciation to former Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, acknowledging her consistent support and belief in the national sporting fraternity throughout her tenure.
Nurul Huda said the encouragement and confidence shown by Hannah had played a significant role in uplifting Malaysian sports, and extended her best wishes to the minister as she takes on a new portfolio as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).
Meanwhile, Olympic Council of Malaysia President, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, hoped the athletes would remain focused and try to bring home as many medals, especially gold, from Thailand.
The 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games are happening in Thailand from December 9 to 20, primarily across Bangkok and Chonburi. – BERNAMA
