SIBU: Students who achieved good results in the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) examination at the Catholic High School here will be given incentives.
Bukit Assek sssemblyman, Joseph Chieng said it was a way to encourage students in their studies as well as his way of showing that the government is supportive.
“Today, I announce to the students in Catholic High School that I will also give incentives to all the students who obtained good results in the UEC examination.
“Be it private school or government school … I will take care of them, particularly in my constituency,” he said when met by reporters after the presentation of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) incentives to Catholic High School here yesterday (July 18).
Chieng also noted that the Sarawak government has been very supportive of Chinese private schools since the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem era.
“In 2014, our late chief minister gave recognition to the UEC certification and also financial aid that started with RM3 million.
“Every year it increases by RM1 million until 2020 when it reached RM10 million. This year our Sarawak government will give RM10 million to the schools.
“So, it shows that our Sarawak government respects all streams of education including Chinese private schools.
A total of 18 students from Catholic High School received the SPM incentives.
