SERIAN: The Federation of Chinese Associations Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division has provided relief assistance to 42 families affected by recent flooding in Kampung Rimba Padi here.

The assistance was coordinated by the federation’s vice president Councillor Lai Chew Leong in collaboration with the local village chief, with affected residents gathered at the community hall for the distribution of relief supplies.

According to the association, it moved quickly after receiving updates from the ground, liaising with the Malaysian Red Crescent to identify urgent needs before mobilising its disaster relief team, women’s section and youth section to deliver aid.

Its president Richard Wee said for the past six years, the federation has prioritised rapid assistance to communities across Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and later extending to responses for floods and fires.

He said as a community-based social organisation, the association shares the government’s inclusive approach to assisting all communities, adding that unity and mutual support remain essential as Sarawak continues to advance its autonomy agenda.
