KUCHING: The Chinese community has long been a vital pillar in Sarawak’s economic, social and cultural development.

“Your contributions in business, education and community leadership continue to strengthen Sarawak’s resilience and progress,” added Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in his Chinese New Year 2026 message.

He said Sarawak continues to advance under the leadership of the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, whose inclusive leadership guides the state’s development agenda.

According to Uggah, the 2026 Budget reflects the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment to shared prosperity, with RM9.3 billion allocated for development, including strong emphasis on rural areas.

“To ease the rising cost of living, RM640 million has been allocated for the Basic Necessities Contribution (SKAS) in 2026, benefiting families, senior citizens, and single individuals,” he said.

Uggah added that Sarawak also continues to lead in education by providing free higher education, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies at Sarawak-owned universities.

“Under the leadership of the Premier, a leader for all races, let us move forward together in the spirit of the fire horse – courageous, diligent, and far-sighted.

“Let us continue to unite and work hand in hand to realise the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) aspirations towards a prosperous, inclusive and environmentally sustainable Sarawak,” he said.
