Chinese national slapped with RM2,000 fine for prostitution

KUCHING: A Chinese national was sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here for being involved in prostitution by offering sex services at a massage centre in Jalan Tun Jugah, last August.

The accused, Luan Yan Yan, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge read under Section 379B of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

If she fails to pay the fine, she will face a one-month prison sentence.

According to the charge sheet, on Aug 30 at around 9pm at a reflexology massage centre in Jalan Tun Jugah, she was looking for a client for the purpose if prostitution.

For the offence, the accused can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to one year or a fine or both, if convicted.

Zubaidah ordered the accused to be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department for further action after serving the sentence or paying a fine.

According to the facts of the case, police conducted an inspection at the centre because it was believed to offer sex services.

During the inspection, the police managed to arrest a foreign woman and a man who was an undercover police officer in a room.

The police also confiscated a piece of condom, cash amounting to RM200 and a piece of work schedule paper.

Further investigation found that the accused had offered sex services at a rate of RM200 to the customer.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was represented by a lawyer.
