SIBU: The Sibu Kidney Foundation (SKF) acquired a major boost in its efforts to strengthen treatment services when it received a donation of five units of dialysis machines from The Sibu Eng Ann Teng Tua Pek Kong Temple Charitable Trust, today (April 10).
SKF Chairman, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming said the donation worth about RM250,000 was very significant in helping the foundation accommodate the increasing number of patients as well as current operational needs.
According to him, SKF, which has been operating for over 30 years, currently accommodates about 112 patients, and still grappling with a long waiting list for dialysis treatment at the centre.
“To meet the needs of patients, we had to increase the number of treatment sessions from two to three shifts in addition to increasing the number of dialysis stations,” he said at the handover ceremony of the machines at SKF premises here.
Lau also explained that replacing dialysis machines is an ongoing need as there are some old equipment that can no longer be repaired or maintained.
“Donations like this really help ease SKF’s financial burden, especially in the effort to replace old machines and increase our service capacity,” he said.
He added that this was not the first time the trust had channeled donations to SKF, as they had previously contributed dialysis machines in stages several times.
Meanwhile, Lau stressed that SKF as a non-profit organisation is always committed to providing dialysis treatment at affordable rates without compromising the quality of services.
“Despite the low charges, we still ensure that the services provided are of high quality for the welfare of patients,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to all parties who continue to support SKF, whether in the form of financial donations or equipment, thus ensuring the continuity of services to patients in need.
The Sibu Eng Ann Teng Tua Pek Kong Temple Charitable Trust, represented by its deputy chairman Soon Choon Kui, symbolically handed over the machines to Lau.
