NANNING, China: Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Tuesday held separate meetings with leaders from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam in Nanning, Guangxi, during the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, according to Xinhua.

When meeting Myanmar Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, Han noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. He reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Myanmar’s sovereignty, stability, and political agenda, while urging stronger action against cross-border crime to protect Chinese citizens, projects, and border security. U Nyo Saw pledged to enhance cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), tackle transnational crimes, and advance the China-Myanmar “community with a shared future”.

In talks with Laos Vice President Bounthong Chitmany, Han highlighted the steady progress in building a China-Laos community with a shared future under the guidance of both countries’ top leaders. He expressed hopes for next year’s 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations to further strengthen public ties. Bounthong said bilateral relations were at their “best in history”, stressing Laos’ readiness to deepen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and maintain close exchanges with Beijing.

Meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth, Han recalled President Xi Jinping’s April visit to Phnom Penh and called for accelerating the implementation of joint projects. He urged both countries to advance the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor” to aid modernisation. Vongsey described Cambodia-China ties as an “iron-clad friendship” and vowed to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors to build a shared future.

In discussions with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, Han emphasized the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the ongoing China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He urged both sides to strengthen cooperation guided by top-level consensus, deepen economic ties, and advance socialist modernization. Mai expressed Vietnam’s willingness to boost high-level exchanges, expand bilateral cooperation, and promote the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future.

Han’s meetings underscored China’s push to solidify ties with its Southeast Asian neighbours, promote BRI projects, and advance the ‘shared future” framework with each partner country. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
