MUKAH: A yacht owned by a Chinese national ran aground at Muara Sungai Mukah after suffering engine failure while sailing through Sarawak waters today.

Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the vessel was carrying three Chinese men, who had departed from Phuket, Thailand on March 8, bound for China.

“While passing through Sarawak waters, the yacht’s engine malfunctioned, causing it to run aground at Muara Sungai Mukah.

“The trio attempted to repair the damage but were forced to take a small boat to shore.

“However, during the journey, a backpack containing important documents, including one of their passports, fell into the water and was lost,” he said.

Residents of Kampung Seberang assisted the trio and introduced them to a local Chinese man, who helped them lodge a police report for embassy reference and passport replacement.

Rizal added that they have notified the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Sarawak Rivers Board, and the Mukah Immigration Department about the incident.
