Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen said Pakatan Harapan (PH) will support the state’s move to impose five percent sales tax on petroleum products.

“We will support it as long as it is legally and constitutionally right, but we are wondering why they take so long to impose (it) as the sales tax has been the rights of the state,” he pointed out.

Chong said this when met by reporters after the tabling of the State Budget 2019 by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday.

On a slightly different note, Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament Dr Kelvin Yii, however, welcomed and supported the budget, describing it as a good one for the rural folks.

Kelvin pointed out that the Chief Minister had placed a huge emphasis on development especially in the rural areas, which should benefit the rural folks.
