KUCHING: Christians in Sarawak have sent their warm greetings to the Buddhist community for Wesak Day.

Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) chairman the Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute said Buddha’s teachings and message of peace, compassion and service to humanity is imperative in light of the many international conflicts and domestic issues.

“We, the Christian community in Sarawak wish to extend our warmest felicitous greetings to the Buddhist community as they celebrate the auspicious occasion of Wesak Day,” he said in a press statement today (May 22).

He said it is essential that the people respect and celebrate each other’s similarities as well as differences in a multicultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation such as Malaysia.

“Let us affirm the good in each other. In this way, we can all help to build a more peaceful, respectful and prosperous nation.

“Have a happy Wesak Day,” he added.

Wesak Day is observed by the Buddhist faith today (May 22), an important day to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and passing of Buddha, carrying symbolic meanings beyond its practices.
