KUCHING: The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) is seeking to learn from Sarawak’s long-standing model of cohesion, mutual respect, and inclusive governance.
A CFM delegation led by chairman Rev Dr Eu Hong Seng paid a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sri Pertiwi Complex on Tuesday (July 28).
Rev Eu said they discussed various matters with the Premier, including Sarawak’s remarkable progress and the role of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) in the state.
“The Premier is well-informed and has a progressive vision. He obviously has strong leadership, which is why Sarawak has become so progressive and has achieved high-income status, surpassing other states.
“That is because the state government has managed its resources well. Perhaps in the future, we will have further dialogue and organise more programmes together. For now, this is just a courtesy call.”
The courtesy call was aimed at strengthening ties and gaining firsthand insight into the Sarawak way of fostering racial and religious harmony and understanding.
CFM also hopes to study how the state has successfully maintained its harmonious environment, with a view to sharing valuable lessons that could promote greater national unity and acceptance across Malaysia.
The delegation comprised members of CFM’s executive committee, including vice-chairman Rev Julian Leow, Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur; Rev Datuk Danald Jute; and Rev Datuk Dr Simon Poh.
