KUCHING: The Spring Shopping Mall officially launched the festive season with the lighting of its iconic three-storey Christmas tree, marking the start of holiday shopping.
The event saw people from all walks of life gathering to witness the dazzling tree, adorned with maroon red baubles, red and white candy canes, and sparkling lights.
The tree was ceremoniously lit by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“This is a time of joy, a time to come together and share, not just our celebrations but our healing and hope,” he said, emphasising the importance of unity during this special time of year.
As part of the festive launch, the Spring Shopping Mall is offering a special treat for movie lovers: a chance to attend the premiere screening of Paddington in Peru at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) on Jan 16.
Dr Sim also congratulated mall for its remarkable efforts in preparing the venue for the holidays.
This year’s decorations reflect the “BEARy” Christmas theme, inspired by the movie Paddington in Peru.
The celebrations will continue throughout the season, with highlights including carolling and a special fireworks display on Christmas Eve.
From now until December 25, the mall is hosting a Christmas market, offering a delightful array of kiosks with unique holiday treats, handcrafted gifts, trendy accessories, and festive décor.
Dr Sim praised the uniqueness of the market, noting that it not only showcased decorations but also highlighted local talents and creativity.
“Here, we include everyone – no matter their race, religion, or social status,” he explained.
He likened the community spirit to church services, where everyone, regardless of wealth, sits together in unity.
“We come together to celebrate the season of joy, and that’s what makes this season truly special,” he said.
