KUCHING: Murum Assemblyman, Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, has announced his bid for the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Wing chief post, offering himself as a candidate in the upcoming contest.
Chukpai said the Youth Wing holds a special place in his heart, as it was his starting point when he entered politics.
“So, I’m offering myself for the post to serve the party as Ketua Pemuda. I have seen the development of the party from the beginning until now.
“I’m expecting myself and Christopher Gira (Tamin Assemblyman) eyeing for the post. It’s a friendly competition,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met at the party’s headquarters after attending the Supreme Council Meeting chaired by PRS President, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, today.
If entrusted with the role, Chukpai pledged to strengthen the Youth Wing and groom the next generation of leaders.
He pointed out that the main challenge now lies in engaging with Undi18 voters, following the implementation of the law granting voting rights to all Malaysians aged 18 and above.
“We need a strong Pemuda and must get these young people involved. They are the future leaders, so if I’m given the opportunity, I will focus on empowering this wing of the party,” he said.
He added that more initiatives are needed to bring young people together, including organising various programmes to further fortify the Youth Wing.
The party’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) will take place on October 18-19 in Kuching.
