KUCHING: In conjunction with Earth Day 2025, 135 students from Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 led a dedicated environmental awareness campaign across Kuching.

The campaign, organised under the global Earth Day theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, received the full support of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and served as a timely call for collective environmental stewardship.

As part of their campaign, the students actively engaged the public at major shopping centres throughout the city, collecting signatures and raising awareness on critical environmental issues, including climate change, plastic pollution, and the importance of sustainable habits.

The campaign’s objective was to remind the public of Earth Day’s significance and the pressing need for concrete action.

Following the outreach activities, the students visited the MBKS headquarters for an official tour and a dialogue session with Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

Wee praised the students for their initiative in raising awareness on Earth Day, describing their efforts as commendable and impactful beyond a routine visit.

“This is more than just a visit, and these students have taken the initiative to remind us that today is Earth Day.

“Their dedication to spreading awareness and gathering public support reflects a level of engagement that is truly commendable,” he said at a press conference.

He further acknowledged the growing importance of empowering younger generations in the city’s environmental initiatives.

“We often say that the power to protect our planet lies in our hands, but these students are showing us that it lies in their hands as well.

“Their proposals today are not just symbolic gestures but reflect real concerns and constructive solutions that we, as a council, must consider,” he added.
