KUCHING: All sub-contractors engaged in construction projects are required to register with the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) to meet the nation’s construction regulations.
CIDB Sarawak director, Rosmen Awang Hassan said an Integrated Enforcement Operation (OPB) is held four times annually to provide awareness about the importance of compliance with CIDB 1994 (Act 520).
“We visited a development project and conducted inspections across five areas, including contractor registration, construction personnel registration, and worker registration to verify whether they are properly accredited.

“We also examined construction material certification under Section 33D(1) of Act 520, which stipulates that any construction materials listed in the fourth schedule must be certified by the board,” he said after carrying out the operation at a construction site in Petra Jaya, Tuesday (June 9).
He said that the operation was also carried out to ensure adherence to construction industry regulations, with the participation of various enforcement agencies and relevant authorities.
“In Kuching, the operation involved the Labour Department of Malaysia (JTK), Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), and Malaysian Construction Academy (ABM).
“Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department (RELA), Kuching North City Hall DBKU, Sarawak State Health Department and other CIDB branches were also involved,” he said.
He said that the authorities found several instances of non-compliance, particularly involving expired contractor registrations and construction workers who were either not registered with CIDB or did not possess valid CIDB Green Cards.
He stressed the need to strengthen awareness among contractors to ensure compliance with Act 520, to promote greater integrity and accountability in construction projects.
