KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has called on Sarawakians to take pride in the city’s growing global reputation, describing Kuching as not only a city of unity but also a world-class destination and a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

He said gastronomy is not only about food but also about beverages, adding that the recognition reflects Kuching’s dynamic culture, creativity and strong community spirit.

“I also call upon Sarawakians to maintain the Sarawak spirit and its unique identity, with the city ready to embrace international brands while fostering local entrepreneurship and innovation,” he said during the grand opening of the Juancha Boulevard Mall outlet on Saturday (Oct 11).

Wee commended Juancha (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for its commitment to introducing the art of Oriental tea culture to Malaysians.

“Juancha blends tradition and modern taste, offering customers a refreshing way to experience tea, one that is both authentic and innovative,” he said.

He predicted that the new outlet would soon become one of Kuching’s favourite gathering spots, where people can relax, connect and enjoy quality tea.

He expressed confidence that Juancha’s presence here would create more career opportunities for locals while contributing to the growth of the state’s food and beverage industry.
