PREMIER Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent announcement of a two-month bonus for state civil servants and a one-off payment of RM700 for federal civil servants serving in the state has been widely welcomed as a timely gesture of appreciation, especially amid rising living costs and financial pressures.

Seen as a recognition of the contribution of the public service sector, the incentive also reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusivity for both state and federal civil servants.
The Sarawak Tribune spoke to several public servants to gauge their reactions to the announcement.
NURUL SYUHADA MOHD ZAIDI, 37, Federal Civil Servant

“As a federal civil servant serving in Sarawak, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Sarawak government for this financial incentive. I see this assistance as a meaningful form of recognition for civil servants’ contributions. Although the amount for federal officers is slightly lower compared to state civil servants, I am grateful to be included and to experience this sense of inclusivity. This incentive also reflects Sarawak’s stable economy and increasing state revenue. As the backbone of public administration, we will continue to strive to be more productive, disciplined and committed in delivering quality services to the people.”
MARZIRA HANIP OMAR, 35, Nurse
“Personally, I am very thankful for the appreciation shown by the Premier to all civil servants, whether at the state or federal level. With inflation and the rising cost of living, this special bonus provides much-needed financial relief for daily expenses, children’s schooling and even savings for the future. It certainly helps ease the burden we face today.”

HUSNA NABILAH, 33, Teacher
“In my view, the Premier’s announcement is truly a relief, whether for state or federal civil servants. Financial assistance like this makes a real difference. It also makes us feel valued and respected for the responsibilities we carry every day throughout the year, and it boosts our motivation to continue delivering the best service to the public.”

MOHD FAHMI ABU BAKAR ADENI, 35, Healthcare Worker
“This bonus really helps with family budgeting, especially with preparations for the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya next year. There are also many expenses to consider when the school year starts, so this financial support comes at the right time. It eases the pressure of planning for multiple needs and allows us to focus on both celebrations and everyday responsibilities.”
