KUCHING: Civil servants must uphold professionalism, integrity and dedication in performing their duties as the backbone of government administration, said Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.
He stressed that the efficiency and commitment of civil servants determine how effectively government policies are translated into tangible benefits for the people.

“Civil servants are the main link between the government and the people.
“Every directive and initiative formulated at the top requires careful, effective and responsible implementation on the ground,” he said when officiating at the MADANI Appreciation Dinner 2025 organised by CUEPACS Sarawak here on Saturday night.
Gerawat emphasised that integrity forms the foundation of public trust in the government, urging civil servants to practise honesty, transparency and accountability while steering clear of corruption and abuse of power.
He also reminded them that every decision made by civil servants directly affects public welfare and the image of the government, calling on them to remain professional and neutral regardless of leadership changes to ensure continuity in public service delivery.
“Civil servants must also serve as role models in terms of ethics, discipline and honesty,” he said.
Gerawat highlighted that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Sarawak Government has consistently recognised the contributions of civil servants through special assistance payments.
He added that during the upcoming State Legislative Assembly sitting at the end of November, the Premier is expected to table the State Budget 2026, expressing hope that continued support for the civil service will remain a government priority.
Touching on policy reforms, Gerawat said the amendments to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance, which came into force in May this year, were aimed at strengthening worker protection and promoting a fair balance between employers and employees.
“These amendments safeguard workers’ rights, encourage productivity, promote industrial harmony, and attract more investments through a modern and fair labour system,” he said.
Gerawat also commended CUEPACS for its continued role as the voice of civil servants, ensuring their welfare remains a top priority while supporting Sarawak’s development agenda.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Datuk Dr Adnan Mat, CUEPACS would continue to play an important role in ensuring Malaysia’s civil service remained efficient, trustworthy and relevant.
The event was also attended by CUEPACS Malaysia’s President, Datuk Dr Adnan Mat, CUEPACS Sarawak’s Chairman, Kullin Djayang, and senior officials from various departments and agencies.
