KUCHING: The Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) and the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) are joining forces to host the first-ever Kuching Media Run on July 20.

This landmark event marks a new era of collaboration and unity among media professionals in Kuching, highlighting the importance of wellness, camaraderie, and collective support within the journalism community.

The inaugural run promises to strengthen bonds within the industry while fostering a healthy and active lifestyle for all participants.

“This partnership marks an exciting milestone for both CJA and KDJA. Bringing media professionals together for a recreational and health-focused event not only strengthens industry bonds but also underscores the importance of collaboration in journalism,” said CJA president Alice Wee.

KDJA president Ronnie Teo chipped in: “We believe engaging media supporters through recreational activities like the Media Run will help create spaces where media professionals can unwind while staying active. It’s a chance to relax and recharge while still fostering a spirit of camaraderie,” she added.

“Journalism is a fast-paced profession, and it’s easy to overlook wellness. This initiative serves as an important reminder that a healthy lifestyle contributes to sharper focus and overall well-being, enabling media professionals to continue their vital work with energy and resilience.”

Exclusive T-shirt designs with journalism-themed motifs, along with a specially crafted medal in the shape of a camera, will be awarded to participants.

The event’s mascot, an orangutan dressed as a journalist, will serve as a symbol of the connection between nature and the media profession.

“We hope that these will add excitement to the Media Run, making it more appealing to both media professionals and the public. With unique designs and meaningful symbols, we aim to create an engaging experience that participants will remember long after the event,” said Teo.

Registration for the Kuching Media Run is open to everyone, with categories including 3km and 5km fun runs and a 10km competitive run.

Participants can register online at www.malaysianrunners.com, or they can complete a manual registration form available at the Revrun store in Green Heights Mall, Kuching.
