KUCHING: True educational reform begins in the classroom, the most fundamental unit of the school, according to Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek.

She lauded the dedication of teachers who have implemented meaningful changes that directly benefit students’ learning experiences, stating that the commitment shown by educators across Malaysia continues to drive improvements in the national education system.

She said this in her speech at the 54th National Teacher’s Day Awards Ceremony held at Hikmah Exchange Convention Centre (HEEC) in Kuching today.

“Congratulations to all teachers, because you have a day that is celebrated by all students and pupils, and truly, it is celebrated by the whole Malaysian people to honour the sacrifices and contributions of all teachers,” she said.

The state of Sarawak proudly played host to this prestigious national-level event, bringing together educators and stakeholders from every corner of the country.

In her speech, Fadhlina also shared a touching personal anecdote about preparing Teacher’s Day gifts for her children’s school.

This simple gesture, she said, reminded her of how the celebration of Teacher’s Day extends beyond school grounds and into homes and communities – showcasing the genuine appreciation Malaysians have for their educators.

The ceremony included a presentation of awards to honor outstanding teachers who have made exceptional contributions in their respective fields.

Fadhlina announced that several award categories had been expanded this year to allow more educators to be acknowledged for their service and impact.

“I see so many positive developments taking place in classrooms across the country.

“When we talk about school reform, there is no place more fitting, more unique, and more impactful on a child’s learning and education than the classroom itself,” she said.

“Thank you, teachers, for continuing to educate with sincere hearts, for your sacrifices and contributions which are perhaps impossible to repay.”
