KUCHING: The International Energy Week (IEW) Summit 2025 continues to position itself as a key platform for discussion on critical topics such as renewable energy, hydrogen and biofuels.

The summit brought together experts and industry players whose insights helped unpack the digital solutions and technologies transforming the way energy is produced and consumed.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said technology alone is not enough to achieve real energy transformation.

“We must ensure that the support systems — including policies, technology, finance and workforce development — also evolve in tandem.

“Only then can we scale these solutions inclusively and effectively,” he said in his opening speech at the IEW 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

He further said that energy transition is not merely a technical issue but is closely linked to social justice and economic development.

“Clean energy must be accessible, create meaningful job opportunities and uplift marginalised communities.

“This is not only the right thing to do, but a necessity for sustainable and lasting development,” TVS quoted him in its news report.

The IEW, he said, also serves as a catalyst for impactful, long-term global collaborations in pursuit of clean energy.

“Real progress is driven by collaboration, not competition. We are facing a climate crisis that demands urgent and decisive action.

“It takes more than technology — it demands bold ideas, smart policies, and broad cooperation,” he said.

IEW 2025 runs for three days starting Tuesday, bringing together policymakers, innovators, industry leaders and changemakers from around the world.

Carrying the theme ‘From Sarawak to the World: The Journey Towards Clean Energy Leadership’, the event reinforces Sarawak’s position as a regional leader in clean energy.
