SIBU: The Community MADANI Norkiah, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan Service Centre, and Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) Sungai Empawah have brightened the lives of 160 students in the Bawang Assan constituency through the ‘Clear Vision, Bright Future’ programme.

According to Bawang Assan Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, hundreds of students underwent eye screenings through the programme, and many were found to be suffering from fairly serious short-sightedness.

“Clear vision is not just a blessing but a necessity in life.

“For a student, clear eyesight determines how well they are able to learn in class,” he said in his speech at the spectacle handover event at a renowned hotel here today.

He stressed that such programmes should be continued and even expanded as every pair of eyes that are well cared for opens the way to a better future and quality of life.

“Therefore, I would like to thank the organisers who supported this programme, as well as the healthcare workers, teachers, school staff, and all the parents who worked closely together to make today’s event a success,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDP Bawang Assan Chairman who is also the Chairman of Community MADANI Norkiah, Councillor Wong Hua, said the aim of the programme was to provide free spectacles to students from low-income families.

“We organised this programme after being informed by schools that many students were experiencing vision problems but could not afford glasses due to financial constraints.

“They could not see the blackboard clearly, struggled to read the writing on the whiteboard, and found it difficult to follow lessons in class,” he said.

He emphasised that they hoped the programme would open a window to the future for these students, so that their learning journey would no longer be hindered by blurred vision.

“We also hope this is only the beginning. May there be many more initiatives like this in the future to help more children in need, lighting the way for their education and their future.

“A child’s eyes are not just for seeing the world, but for seeing hope,” he added.
