TATAU: The hosting of the Iftar Perdana event at the new district mosque here last Saturday served as a testament to the harmonious co-existence of the multiracial community.

Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Sri John Sikie Tayai, was the guest of honour at the event.

In his speech, Sikie emphasised the importance of close ties among the Malay, Chinese, Iban, Punan, and Baketan communities, who have long lived together in harmony here.

“We in Tatau possess a unique quality, where religious and cultural differences do not hinder our unity. This is the strength that enables this district to continue developing and remain a peaceful place for everyone,” he said.

To support local community development, Sikie, who is also the assemblyman for Kakus, announced an allocation of RM20,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funding for the management committee of the mosque, as well as RM30,000 each for Kampung Dagang and Kampung Baru Tatau.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Selangau, Edwin Banta, also contributed RM10,000 to each village and RM20,000 to the mosque as additional support.

The event also witnessed the distribution of 600 packets of bubur lambuk and bubur pedas, a collaborative effort between Saberkas Kakus, the Neighbourhood Watch Committee, and the Community Development Department (Kemas).

Additionally, the Iltizam Relief Society donated 200 sets of mattresses, pillows, and food baskets to families in need.
