KUCHING: A coffeeshop worker was injured after falling victim to a snatch thief while walking to a bus stop in Kota Sentosa Bazaar yesterday afternoon.
Chai Ah Chung, 56, from Bau, had earlier gotten off work and was walking alone when the incident happened in front of a bakery at around 3.15pm.
At the time of the incident, an unknown man had exited the bakery, approached him and grabbed his mobile phone and RM10 from the pocket of his shirt.
A scuffle broke out between the two and the suspect managed to flee the scene in a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle.
Besides losing the mobile phone and RM10, the victim also sustained a cut on his left eyebrow in the incident.
Mobile Police Vehicle (MPV) personnel were called to the scene and the registration number of the 4WD was given to them.
Meanwhile, according to the staff of the bakery, the suspect had earlier entered the premises and demanded money from them.
“He (suspect) came in and asked money from us, but we ignored him as there were many customers at the time. Shortly after that he left the shop,” the staff said.
