KUCHING: The Unity Government is ready to collaborate with constructive opposition bloc to govern and manage the country’s affairs, government administration and parliament.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that such collaboration is crucial to maintain good relations between ethnicities and religions, thereby preserving the country’s image.

“These are matters we want to discuss with the opposition, but at the moment, no (Member of Parliament) has met with me except Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, the MP for Muar.

“Our discussion (with Syed Saddiq) revolves around the framework, allocations, how we intend to manage constituencies, and so on,” he told reporters after officiating the awards ceremony for the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF) 2023 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday.

Fadillah said the opposition chief whip or opposition leader must be prepared to meet and discuss with the Unity Government on these issues.

He said that such discussion was not to support the Prime Minister but rather to discuss how to establish cooperation in better managing the administration of government.

When asked about the possibility of allocations for the opposition, Fadillah explained that the matter was still in the discussion stage.

“I need to discuss with the leadership council of the Unity Government and all parties involved… after that, we can determine what is agreed upon to be presented to the government. So far, there’s no (final decision),” he added.
