Collaboration ensures aid reaches longhouse fire victims

KANOWIT: National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang, through the Kanowit Service Centre, will work closely with local authorities, the Welfare Department, and voluntary organisations to ensure the aid process for victims of the fire at Rumah Panjang Paulus Yan, Sungai Buan, proceeds smoothly.

The Kanowit MP said that he deeply understands the hardships and challenges faced by the victims of this fire.

“Through the Kanowit Parliamentary Service Centre, in collaboration with Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS), we have provided assistance to all families affected by the fire.

“I hope all the victims are granted strength, resilience, and moral support from their family members, friends, and the surrounding community.

“My office is committed to helping the victims recover from this tragedy and ensuring their lives are restored as quickly as possible,” he said in a statement yesterday (Jan 17).

Earlier, Aaron was seen visiting Rumah Panjang Paulus Yan, Sungai Buan, which was destroyed in a fire on Monday.

After the fire, the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) had set up a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Dewan Datuk Aaron, Bawan, to house the victims, comprising 15 families.

“I wish to express my condolences and sympathy to the 88 residents of Rumah Panjang Paulus Yan, who have lost their homes due to this tragic fire.

“This incident not only destroyed their homes but also resulted in the residents losing nearly all their belongings,” he added.
