KUCHING: As the New Year 2026 approaches, Sarawak is steadily moving closer to achieving its Sarawak Maju Makmur 2030 vision.
Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the remaining period requires stronger commitment, urging all stakeholders to intensify efforts and work together effectively.
“We need to strengthen cooperation between the government, the private sector and the people, enhance efficiency, and ensure no community is left behind,” he said through a press statement yesterday (Dec 30).
He stressed that collective responsibility is essential to ensure development agendas are implemented efficiently and deliver meaningful, inclusive benefits to all segments of society.
According to him, unity and shared commitment remain critical pillars in realising Sarawak Maju Makmur 2030, especially amid evolving economic and developmental challenges.
Lee also expressed hope that Sarawakians will continue upholding long-standing values of unity, tolerance and harmony that define the state’s multicultural identity.
He noted that social and political stability form the foundation for sustainable economic growth and the overall wellbeing of the people across Sarawak.
“For the Sarawak Transport Ministry, the New Year resolution focuses on strengthening a safer, modern, inclusive and efficient transportation system.
“The ministry oversees land, air, river and maritime transport sectors, all of which are vital for connectivity and economic development,” he said.
In 2026, Lee said the ministry will prioritise enhancing mobility and supporting socio-economic growth throughout Sarawak, including rural and interior areas.
“Key initiatives include the implementation of the Autonomous Rapid Transit system in Kuching and preparations for the operationalisation of AirBorneo.
“Road safety improvements remain a priority, alongside strengthening logistics facilities and improving public transport services statewide,” he added.
He said the river and maritime transport sectors will also be further enhanced to improve accessibility, safety and service efficiency.
“These improvements are aimed at better serving coastal and interior communities that depend heavily on waterways for daily mobility and economic activities,” he said.
Lee called on all Sarawakians to enter the New Year with renewed determination, confidence and a shared spirit of cooperation.
He expressed confidence that collective efforts will help build a Sarawak that is more advanced, prosperous, sustainable and inclusive for future generations.
